A third (62%) of people said they struggle to sleep in very hot weather. Although they use a fan to circulate the warm air around, it seems to make very little difference.
Here are some tips to help you sleep in the heat.
When trying to keep the windows open during the day, it is better to keep the windows and curtains closed and only open them in the evening. wipe the curtain rail with a damp towel and let it act as a filter for incoming air.
It's nice to be cozy and warm in the winter, but summer feet can prevent rest and sleep. Avoid cold showers as they wake you up. Instead, let the warm shower wash away the sun's dew. Once in bed, use a cold flannel under your feet or on your face.
Sleeping in underwear may seem like a good idea, but when the weather is hot, it's better to sleep in cotton pajamas. It keeps you cooler and absorbs skin. Also, do you like to sleep alone in this weather because being so close to a heated body doesn't induce sleep?
We all recommend exercise, but be more active an hour or two before bed, even if it's hot. A nice evening walk or gentle yoga is a great way to wind down.
Stay hydrated; drink plenty of water during the day, as dehydration can interfere with the quality of sleep in the heat.
When it is very hot, some people like to put their bed in a sealed plastic bag in the freezer. That way, they cool down without getting wet.
Essential oils, soothing music, and burning candles can all contribute to a good night's sleep in the heat.
Children and young children
They should be kept out of direct sunlight, between 11 am and 3 pm. When the skin is young, it produces only a small amount of melanin, the pigment that provides protection from the sun's rays.
Use sun protection factor 30 and apply , especially if children are supervised while playing in the sea or pool. Use an umbrella or sunshade if you have a pram or a wide hat with long thighs.
Staying hydrated is important for children. Give them plenty of fluids; ice lollies made from cold boiled water, plain boiled water, or well-diluted fruit juice.
Children sleep best when the room temperature is 16-20 C, so close the bedroom windows and curtains during the day and use a fan to circulate the air. keep nightwear to a least; rough paper and single well-protected.
Give the children a cold bath before going to bed.
This is a way to support yourself and your baby to sleep better in the heat.
