While home exercises have long been defined by the coronavirus, they have taken on a social dimension that seems to be standard in a world shaped by the pandemic. A new year is a new beginning for a new you. This is the time when most people hit the mental "reset" button and aim for better health and wellness. They start dieting, join a local health or fitness center, take up CrossFit or kickboxing, or buy fitness equipment to exercise in the privacy of their own home.
The January gym saw an increase in new memberships, but half of the gym members canceled their membership within 6 months. There are many reasons for canceling a gym membership, but the biggest one is that it is difficult to find the time and motivation to visit the gym. When you have the convenience of training at home, it is easier to stay disciplined, or at least deal with apathy or holes.
Fitness and technology
More and more people want the privacy and convenience of working out at home, but still want the exercise and connectivity of going to a fitness center. Peloton is stepping into this niche, combining fitness with the internet in live, interactive sessions and creating a sense of community and friendly competition with an element of fun.
Peloton built its brand on training bikes, which makes perfect sense if you are familiar with the word "peloton". This is a term used to describe the main pack or group of cyclists in a race. Other fitness brands have emerged or jumped on the bandwagon to expand the range of options. Now you can find the same hybrid experience with bikes, treadmills, rowing machines, steppers, elliptical machines, and more. Peloton even now offers treadmills and rowing machines.
Row, row, row your boat
I have used a variety of fitness equipment at the gym and owned many different machines over the years. Most of them take up space and collect dust until they get tired of selling on Craigslist or the Facebook marketplace or become some glorified clothing display unit.
I used Peloton bikes for about 6 months at the start of the pandemic. This is good. The bike itself and the lessons offered were great. The problem for me is that it doesn't motivate me. I have nothing against cycling, but it is not my favorite form of fitness.
I know exercise bikes and treadmills are often more popular and used a lot, but I love the rowing machine. I enjoy not only working my legs but more movement and full-body stretching. There are several rowing machines out there that offer a hybrid technology experience, including one from Peloton as mentioned above, but I went with the Hydro Rower.
Hydraulic
The hydro rowing machine is a high-end fitness machine that aims to bring the experience of water rowing to your home. It is 86" long x 25" wide x 47" tall and has a sleek and modern design that weighs only 150 pounds. The device has a 22" HD touchscreen that provides a clear and intuitive interface. For navigation and training track. It also includes USB and HDMI, has many ports, as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support, making it easy to connect to other devices and stream data.
The base has wheels on one end for easy rolling. It can also be stored (with the addition of the right storage kit option), taking up less space when not in use. Hydrow also offers another model, the Hydrow Wave Rover, which is smaller and lighter (and cheaper) if you prefer.
Hydraulic experience
Using hydraulics is straightforward. Once the device is set up and connected to the Internet, you can access live and on-demand lessons via the touchscreen. You can also adjust the resistance level, watch your progress and track your measurements on the screen. Gidrow includes a variety of training programs and challenges that can be accessed via the touch screen.
One of the great features of the Hydro is its true paddling experience. , it would be better if two separate handles operate instead of a single rod to pull, but our vibration resistance system aims to provide a boat feel in the water and smooth, quiet operation.
You can adjust the resistance for your workouts by configuring the settings in your profile through the touchscreen interface. You can customize it to suit your fitness level and workout goals. I do wish the resistance went a bit higher, though. I am not a professional rower, and I am not even at my peak fitness, but I have it set on the most resistance and would like to have the option of bumping it up for an even tougher workout.
Like Peloton and other hybrid experience fitness equipment, Hydrow has a variety of features to help users stay motivated and engaged. You can compete with other Hydrow users in virtual races, and the machine is also compatible with popular fitness apps such as Strava and Fitbit. Additionally, Hydrow has a built-in leaderboard that allows you to track your progress and compete against other Hydrow users.
The Hydrow subscription service provides access to live and on-demand classes led by professional rowers. The classes range from beginner to advanced and cover a variety of styles, including cardio, strength, and mindfulness. The live classes are broadcast from locations around the world, such as the Hudson River and the Charles River, and provide a sense of community and accountability. The on-demand classes, so, can be accessed at any time and provide flexibility for users with busy schedules.
Fitness Ain’t Cheap
The rower itself is $2,495, and the subscription service is $44 a month. There is a small silver lining for households where many people will use the rower because the subscription fee allows unlimited household memberships. They offer 0% financing options through Klarna that will let you get the rower and subscription for about $63 a month. But that is pretty steep when you consider that you can join Planet Fitness for $10 a month and they also have rowing machines...and a ton of other equipment.
The Hydrow is a significant investment, but it's well worth the cost if you want a realistic and immersive rowing experience in the convenience of your own home. The machine is ideal for users of all fitness levels, and the wide variety of classes and workout programs make it a versatile and effective piece of fitness equipment.
