Wrestling legend Jerry 'The King' Lawler recovering from a stroke in Florida hospital
According to many media outlets and friends of the legendary wrestler, Jerry. "The King" Lawler was rushed to a hospital in Fort Myers after suffering a stroke.
Lawler, 73, owns an apartment in south Fort Myers and was having lunch with friends when he became ill and was taken to the hospital on Monday. Lawler's longtime friend Dave Brown told the Memphis Commercial Appeal that he spoke. I with Lawler via FaceTime early Tuesday afternoon and was very encouraged that he was recovering from the stroke.
"Some of the early reports were terrible, so I'm feeling a lot better than 18 hours ago. When I felt like I got hit in the face with a shovel," said Brown, a former meteorologist in the Memphis area where Lawler is. z. "I was encouraged after I did the FaceTime. Jerry was alert. He was talking to me. He could only say a few words at a time, which is pretty normal. But (he) was able to move both legs and both arms.
"very optimistic that he will recover."
Brown became friends with Lawler while serving as the announcer for the long-running Saturday morning show. "Classic Memphis Wrestling".
Following his wrestling career, Lawler has become one of WWE's top color commentators and recently appeared at WWE's. Royal Rumble on January 28. He also appeared in Punta Gorda at the Charlotte Harbor Event Center on Saturday, signing autographs.
In 2012, Lawler had a scare after wrestling in a tag team match and later announced it during an episode of WWE Raw. He suffered a heart attack during the show and was pronounced dead for 30 minutes before being revived.

Lawler made his professional debut in 1970 and from 1970 to 1992 appeared in more than 20 different wrestling federations and associations, according to Jerry Lawler's official website. He has won 168 championships.
∎ He achieved national fame in 1982 with a fake feud with comedian Andy Kaufman, which resulted in Kaufman's famous slap in the face during a taping of "Late Night with David Letterman."
∎ In 1992, he joined the WWF and became one of the leading figures in wrestling, where he worked as a wrestler and commentator for more than 20 years.
∎ He was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 1996 and the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.
Other professional wrestlers also sent well wishes, including Paul Orndorff and Ric Flair.
